{Baby Day}

Yesterday was baby day at the studio. I had a newborn in the morning and a six month old in the evening. I can’t say what it is about newborn lips that I love so much and I don’t understand why I have a fascination with theirs and not adult lips. They are just soooo cute

If you ask me, six moths old is the perfect baby age. Sitting up on their own, those chunky baby rolls, the gummy smiles. I was glad for a little reprieve from the heat yesterday. It was still quite a work out shooting outside, but I am looking forward to fall weather.

I big puffy heart love smiling babies. I seriously thought this little one was going to break into giggles with her giant smiles. I will never get tired of posting them. The studio has been full of newborns this week. HAd to post one from earlier in the week. Stay tuned… I’ll be posting more over the weekend.

{Kerie and Bruce}

Summertime is coming to an end and I have neglected my poor blog for way to long. Over this next week I’ll be posting some weddings, seniors and photo entries of some of the memorable events that happened over the summer. So I’ll start off with Kerie and Bruce. The very first couple to be married at The Old Bison Ranch. I was so excited to have the opportunity to photograph there. Kerie’s words were , “It is just the way I imagined my wedding would be” . It was simply perfect. Kerie and Bruce are like local celebrities…. everyone knows them. The ceremony start time was approaching and there was still a line of people funneling in hopes to grabbing a seat. Golden flowers and golden light made the ceremony magical. I can tell you a good time was had by all. Everywhere I looked people were smiling and reminiscing. It was great to be a part of it.

{Thirteen}

When I was thirteen, I was shy, awkward, and GEEKY. I had braces and unruly frizzy hair (thank goodness for the invention of hair products). I had ZERO confidence in anything about myself. My how things have changed. Thirteen looks so different today. This girl has “IT” at thirteen she’s studied the photos, she’s learned what photographs well. A little direction and she’ll go a long way!

{Beach Sessions}

I’ll be at Pointe West in Galveston arriving on July 2nd and leaving on the 6th. I’ll be shooting mini sessions in the evening for $50. Each session will be approximately 15-20 minutes. In the event of bad weather, we will reschedule for the following morning. This was my favorite picture from last year and we used it for our Christmas Card. These sweet kids belong to my CPA. I photographed them last week and had the viewing this week. She shared her iPhone photos with me and expressed how hard it was to get a photograph of the two of them looking at the camera. So I thought I should refrain in sharing what my favorite photo of them together was?

Makes me laugh out loud. He’s got that look like, “I have her wrapped around my finger” and she looks content to be hanging out with her brother. No worries though. Plenty of others with them looking at me together.

I bought myself a new camera in May. Without getting all techno geeky on you, I’ll say that I saw buying this camera as a downgrade from my main camera body. I bought it because it did ONE thing that the other camera did not – video. So over the past month and a half I’ve used it more and more and you know what… I may have viewed it as a downgrade but my feelings on it have definitely changed. This camera has CRAZY focus, great color out of the camera, and can pick up on some of the smallest details.

For example, Baby Maddox was here at the studio yesterday. Some of the detail may be lost in making this image suitable for the web. All the fuzzy details in the first photograph just blew me away, his hair, his faint eyelashes, his peach fuzz, the wrap.

He was truly soundly sleeping for this last photo. Love the way his tiny mouth and chin are so relaxed. He was dreaming with the angels.

{Waiting}

Today is Saturday. A Saturday I have been waiting on for a very long time. Over a year ago, I booked a wedding for this date and was instantly excited over the thought of this wedding. A great chapel in Ft. Worth, a new venue to shoot at. So it’s finally here and I’m at the studio WAITING for UPS to deliver something and I figured I should just go ahead an post some blog entries.

I took a small creative break from writing just because I needed a breather. I have so much I want to show you all and write about but I have to do this type of thing one at a time or its overwhelming. So I’ll share with you this baby I photographed in May. I was looking though her photos and was so instantly in love with her skin and her beautiful eyes. Her mom is so good about bringing in her own props to make her photos unique and different.

{Open Studio}

Well.. it’s finally the week of the Open Studio. Time has flown by. The studio will be open for anyone to come in and take a look around, see my work, talk to us, and ask us questions on Saturday, May 22nd between 11 am and 4 pm. There will be some fun stuff going on. One in particular – Facebook Profile Photos. I’ll have a corner set and I’ll be ready to photograph some super models! I’m asking for a $5 donation to The Light of Gabriel Foundation in return. Never heard of The Light of Gabriel? click here to learn more. I’ll also have a limited supply of $25 off coupons to give away as well as some other offers. We’ll be serving complimentary champagne cocktail, beer, wine, soft drinks, and kids drinks.

The open studio will be held in conjunction with Discover Downtown Waxahachie. Downtown is having a kind of Grand Re-Opening. The city is unveiling a new parking garage and municipal courts. The rest of the Merchants are celebrating by having sales, entertainment, a taste of Waxahachie, the first weekend of our Farmers Market, and a flea market/ rummage sale. Make an afternoon of it. Spend the day in Downtown Waxahachie, eat Good food, have good drinks, come say Hi to me!, go do some Antique Shopping, check out the Rogers Hotel and all its new retail spaces (come say Hi to me!), have some of my friend Terra’s awesome coffee at Zula’s (then come say Hi to me!).

COME SAY HI TO ME ON SATURDAY

{Texas School}

Fair warning… I’m getting ready to get all mushy/artsy on you. I just came back from Texas School for Professional Photographers. This is my second year going and I will be going back again next year. I have to say, the first year was over whelming, a bit depressing, and inspiring all in one. For one week you have an intensive class with an instructor or group of instructors. The amount of information I received last year is still sitting in a spiral with notes all around it. I still go back to it and look to see what I have implemented and what has been lost over time. It was depressing last year because honestly they tore my business apart, but only so I could rebuild it and make it better. Sadly, I only spend about 20% of my time being an artist and the other 80% doing other business stuff.

This year, I went into it with an understanding of what was about to happen. It was a very different experience for me. I left there inspired by words and music. Strangely, I had let my passion for words escape me. And the music… I sit in silence at my studio most days and I never realized how much it was hurting my creativity. It should be interesting what changes between this year and next.

The model above was provided to us for an event they called “The Shootout”. I thought she was a high school senior. We later found out she was 15. If you are a photographer reading this blog and you are accepting payment for your work, I urge you to attend next year. It is the single best piece of advice I can give to you. They will challenge you to be your own artist, they will help you run a successful business ,and they will help build a network of friends you can go to whenever you have questions. There is nothing better than learning from the best in this industry. Save your money.. be at Texas School 2011.
