{Waiting}

Today is Saturday. A Saturday I have been waiting on for a very long time. Over a year ago, I booked a wedding for this date and was instantly excited over the thought of this wedding. A great chapel in Ft. Worth, a new venue to shoot at. So it’s finally here and I’m at the studio WAITING for UPS to deliver something and I figured I should just go ahead an post some blog entries.

I took a small creative break from writing just because I needed a breather. I have so much I want to show you all and write about but I have to do this type of thing one at a time or its overwhelming. So I’ll share with you this baby I photographed in May. I was looking though her photos and was so instantly in love with her skin and her beautiful eyes. Her mom is so good about bringing in her own props to make her photos unique and different.

{Open Studio}

Well.. it’s finally the week of the Open Studio. Time has flown by. The studio will be open for anyone to come in and take a look around, see my work, talk to us, and ask us questions on Saturday, May 22nd between 11 am and 4 pm. There will be some fun stuff going on. One in particular – Facebook Profile Photos. I’ll have a corner set and I’ll be ready to photograph some super models! I’m asking for a $5 donation to The Light of Gabriel Foundation in return. Never heard of The Light of Gabriel? click here to learn more. I’ll also have a limited supply of $25 off coupons to give away as well as some other offers. We’ll be serving complimentary champagne cocktail, beer, wine, soft drinks, and kids drinks.

The open studio will be held in conjunction with Discover Downtown Waxahachie. Downtown is having a kind of Grand Re-Opening. The city is unveiling a new parking garage and municipal courts. The rest of the Merchants are celebrating by having sales, entertainment, a taste of Waxahachie, the first weekend of our Farmers Market, and a flea market/ rummage sale. Make an afternoon of it. Spend the day in Downtown Waxahachie, eat Good food, have good drinks, come say Hi to me!, go do some Antique Shopping, check out the Rogers Hotel and all its new retail spaces (come say Hi to me!), have some of my friend Terra’s awesome coffee at Zula’s (then come say Hi to me!).

COME SAY HI TO ME ON SATURDAY

{A Special Maternity Session}

Every once in a while a person, a family, a couple comes in and everything just works perfectly. I had this feeling when Kristy came in with her husband for her maternity pictures. While I was taking pictures I felt like I was part of a true love story. I could feel that a new dad was anxious to greet his new baby boy, that he loved his wife incredibly, maybe even a little more because she was beautifully pregnant. And then I looked her. Glowing, radiant, happy, beautiful, calm and excited. She had a peace about her. An unwavering love and bond for a family that is miracle waiting to happen.

I can’t wait to meet this tiny miracle…… come back to read the rest of the story in June!

She tells me people tell her she looks like Kim Kardashian… I personally think Elle is quite a bit prettier. Although it was a GORGEOUS day when we took her senior pictures I really love her studio images. She has such a big personality and I think you get a glimpse of it in these photos. She had a wardrobe that I envied and I wish we could have used a little bit of everything she brought with her.

It’s that time… SENIOR TIME. have some spots left in April if you haven’t scheduled yet. Call me quick because they are not going to last much longer.

A brother and a sister. I did this viewing today and we talked a little about how these two were different, yet I can see relation in them. Little Evan with an explosion of a smile and Big Girl Emerson who is just a little shy. Interestingly when she shared her favorite Taylor Swift song she was not shy to sing it out loud. I was trying to get her to come out and play a little with me. We turned the music up, I danced around, I sang. In retrospect, that may have hurt me more than it helped me. Singing and dancing from this person is not a pleasant experience.

As predicted it was a GREAT weekend. Wonderful weather, great outdoor activities, and our families and friends. It’s rare for me to post on a Sunday, my “official” day off. I try to stay away from e-mail and all things work related but I just can’t – too much to do.

Over the weekend we were invited to our good friend Denton’s birthday party. Denton came in for a quick 10-15 minute photo shoot at the studio so that we could design some birthday invites for him.

Hope you all had a great weekend! I will be unavailable tomorrow. I’m taking an all day class. I will be back in the studio on Tuesday!

{Another Hot Newborn}

Baby Brayden was one of the easiest newborns I have photographed in quite some time. It seems like lately I have had my string of wide awake 6 day olds. Very peculiar, but today was quite a treat and very different.

A toasty studio and having mom close by definitely reassured the tiny angel that he was in a safe place.

I’ll be shooting a wedding tomorrow and preparing for it is like preparing for a marathon. Lots of liquids and an excuse to eat some carbs so I can have the endurance to make it through the day. Have a happy and safe weekend!

You ever get a song stuck in your head? As much as I love photography, I love music. And many times I look at a picture and I hear a song. When I photograph a crying child I always play the same song in my head. It’s that song by REM, “Everybody Hurts”.

{Where did July go}

I have been in M.I.A. Every night I go to sleep and I think about how I haven’t posted on the blog in such a long time. I took a couple of trips this month. First to go see my family and pick up my daughter in Mississippi. Then we went to Galveston for a week. I posted this family picture on facebook and someone said, “I bet its hard to photograph a professional photographer”. The truth is, I picked a total stranger and trusted her with $7,000 worth of equipment. I set it up and said, “all you have to do is press the button.” I sweated bullets for about 30 seconds after she said, “oh this is the one I’ve been wanting” while holding my camera.

I was ready to tackle her if she bolted. Fortunately for everyone… she didn’t

I’ll be posting some old and new previews. Stay tuned and as always…..

A wedding on the hottest day of the year to date can be described only one way – Hot, HOT and more HOT. In spite of the heat it was a beautiful day and the shade at Loma Linda did provide some refuge from the heat. It’s one of the great thing about those canopy of trees. They have protected us from the rain and saved us from the heat.

Laurel and Jay were so cute together. I watched the slideshow of images of them growing up, trips they had taken together, some of their engagement photos and you could see how the two just fit. They were made for each other.
