{Married | Nancy and Alex}

I pretty much knew all week that the monsoon was going to hit over the weekend.  For the past four days a constant rain has showered our parched earth here in the Dallas area.  I accepted on Friday that no outdoor photos would be accomplished at this wedding.  For weddings I prefer to be outside using nature and architecture as my backgrounds, but it just wouldn’t be.

Nancy and Alex’s wedding was one of deep emotion, old customs, strong heritage, and uncompromising faith.  Nancy recited her vows from the heart and Alex lovingly looked on and reassured her with his happy eyes and gentle smile.  The ceremony was held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ennis.  When I walked in and smelled the church, I remembered it as the smell of my youth. It was the same smell as my old alma mater, St. Rita. The mass was a bilingual mass incorporating both American and Mexican traditions.  As people were still being seated the music began from the upper balcony from the church. Eight fully costumed mariachi’s played from the heavens of the church.  It’s been been years since I heard a mariachi mass and it really set the tone for the remainder of the day.  Part of the wedding included presentation of a lasso, arras (golden coins), and a bible which were all blessed by the priest.  Their closest family and friends all had a part in their ceremony.  At the end they were pronounced husband and wife and at their sides in front of the guests stood their parents.  Present through their childhoods and letting them go into marriagehood (is that a word??).  So powerful and symbolic.

Here is the sldieshow I prepared for them while the reception started.  Just press play.
