{In Memory of Jack Larkin}

Gail8406_copy

I took these photographs knowing this day would come.  The day I would write about attending his service. Gail, his wife, a friend and client of mine, talked to me about it for months.  She finally got the entire family together and I was scheduled to go to her house to photograph the family. Torrential rains plagued Waxahachie that day.  To this day, I can’t believe that I decided to drive through the entrance of her neighborhood which had flooded and appeared to be about thigh deep in water (but I tend to exaggerate these things). We were supposed to have the session outside in Gail’s beautiful garden. I walked up to her house barefoot, sandals in hand, ankle deep in water at her front door. We moved couches, table, books, decorations and transformed her living room in a matter of minutes. I captured Jack that day with his family.

I overheard someone saying tonight, he fought cancer for over 30 years. What a long and brave fight.  In his obituary, Gail, the literary buff that she is (I know this because I moved many books that day), chose one of my favorite quotes.

"He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week, My Sunday rest, My noon, My midnight, My talk, My song…."

  When I walked into the room tonight, where Jack was being remembered - photographs from his life were everywhere. Though I had only known him a few months, through his pictures I was able to know him through his lifetime.

I love photographs……..

To Gail and her family… my sincerest condolences.

{SURPRISE}

When I decided to get the new website, I also decided it was time to change blog services.   I hate that all my old posts will be archived there. There are so many that are so personal.  But I’m excited about my new blog home and I’m still learning everything there is to know about using typepad.  So it may change a little over the next few months.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think about the new website and blog!!

{Tag - I’m it}

Well my lovely photographer friend Rebekah tagged me today which means I have to give up eight things that most people don’t know about me. Little did Rebekah know that I am the most BORING person in the world. But I can play along.

1. I majored in biology and psychology in college because I was convinced I was meant to be a doctor. Then I took the MCAT and realized…. hmmmm… maybe not.

2. I married the boy I fell in love at 13 when I was 32.

3. Yes, my daughter is named after one of my favorite restaurants - La Madeleine.

4. I have two real addictions. Coca-Cola and GOOGLE.

5. I try and act cool… but I’m really a self confessed GEEK.

6. I’ve tried to complete both a marathon and a triathlon and have failed at both. Still on my list of things to do… someday.

7. I may be the single most competitive woman in Waxahachie. I don’t like losing. My daughter has a new soccer coach. He saw some girls sitting on their balls and he told them, " there’s no resting in soccer - you can rest at home. STAND UP" . This is my six year old’s coach. And I like him.

8. I’m not a movie person. I like very few movies. I am a words person. I prefer to listen to music with meaning.

Now I have to go find people to tag. ….
Dejah One of the first photographers that I found online that I loved. I think she might think I am a scary stalker

Charmi An online photographer friend

Sherri A fellow web addict (we’ve talked about it)

Carolyn My friend….The one least likely to do it. But she might just surprise you.

{from today}

Sharing a favorite that I presented today. Love the light in the afternoon in my studio. Why this one? The look… the sparkle, the color… it’s all in the eyes.

Be good!
